This was purchased to prevent our small puppy from going down the basement stairs. It was easy to install and worked fine. It is also easy for adults to step over, which is a plus for me. Unfortunately, after seeing the cats go over it several times, she began to try and go over also. We moved it to a different doorway where the cats are not interested in going and it worked, again.

It is super easy and of course you have to use some kind of force to lock it because you need to get it tight against the walls.
I would say the force you use to lock the gate is normal Like every other gate out there.
The plastic is sturdy and I love the decorative paw prints!.
